How to Help
Financial Support
Despite the devices being significantly cheaper than traditional medical equipment they still carry a price tag. Majority of the devices cost 900 kwacha to produce (about 40 USD), but costs range from 600-900 kwacha (30-40 USD). Most families in need of these devices can only afford to pay a small fraction of this amount and the remaining device cost is subsidized by donations.
We had previously hoped to be able to use an online platform to receive recurrent and one time donations. Due to limitations with banking in Zambia this is not possible. This means we are only able to take donations via bank transfer or in person at our building at UTH. If you are interested in donating to support APTERS please send a message below.
Materials
APTERS prides itself on using as many reusable materials as possible for production of the assistive devices.
Materials used in devices include:
- Large sheets of cardboard (provide strength and stability)
- Maize (cooked to form glue that bonds the paper to the cardboard)
- Paint (oil-based to provide some water resistance)
If you are located in Lusaka and are interested in donating any of the above please contact us.
